Feed-in tariff hits the Archers

Posted by Cathy Debenham on 7 September 2012 at 11:24 am

Last night grumpy old Adam Macy on Radio 4's The Archers acknowledged that his step father Brian had made a good move building an anaerobic digestion system. "It's the one part I do buy into. Even with the tariff cuts the figures do look pretty good. ... It's going to produce a lot more power than we need [for the dairy] and accomodation. We should get a decent return."

He went on to add that he thought Brian had missed a trick by not covering the dairy in solar panels. "I'm thinking long term. The more you control your energy, the less you get mucked about."

Given the number of farmers who have embraced renewable energy with open arms, The Archers has been a bit slow on the uptake, yet this coverage can only be good news. And Adam's long term thinking certainly makes sense if it gets more people thinking long term.
