Can I pre-register for domestic RHI?

Posted by Tasha Kosviner on 20 November 2013 at 9:26 am

Q. We have had solar thermal and a biomass heating system installed. I have two questions: firstly can we pre-register for the domestic renewable heat incentive, and secondly I have read that you need to be in full time employment to qualify, which seems a bit bizarre. Is that true?

A. Provided your installation was made after July 15, 2009 by a microgeneration certification scheme (MCS)-accredited installer then you should qualify for domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI) payments.

Unfortunately there is no way to pre-register your interest - it's just a case of keeping an eye out for announcements from the department of energy and climate change and Ofgem who will be administering the scheme when it does finally go live in spring 2014. We will also be keeping a close eye on progress so do check back to this website regularly. If you sign up to our newsletter, we'll be making sure that relevant updates about domestic RHI will be reported there.

I am surprised to hear that you have heard of a requirement to be in full time employment in order to qualify for RHI payments. There is no such criteria and Ofgem were equally surprised when I put the question to them. I'd be interested to hear where you read this.
