Our house qualified for SuperHome status after the main efficiency work that we did on the building and installing a log-burning stove. Since then we have installed PV and maximised on the log-burner. Our gas use is now down to 10% of our first year's use and the standing charge is as much as the cost of the gas used. It is only a matter of time before we sever the gas connection and go all-electric.
Our car had four times the carbon footprint of our house so that is being replaced by an electric vehicle and a diverting charger that uses the solar PV output.
I am an engineer who has worked in Africa for 16 years and I have realised that energy is at the heart of everything that we do.
I now work for a national charity supporting communities with their energy projects.
