3.22 kW solar pV and solar water heating installed 02/2010.
Stiil early days (05/2010):
pv is making significant contributions
solar water heating likewise (according to the metering) but still needing additional heat each day from boiler
Oil fired c/h boiler augmented by conservatory on SW side and by wood burning stove burning solely waste wood.
My son experimented with making fuel blocks (using briquette maker designed for paper) out of horse poo. Liquid extracted was used as fertiliser.
Blocks were easily broken when wet but they dried (stacked over summer) to give stable (no pun), clean, blocks smelling of dried grass. Rather low density fuel (i.e. light). They burned well leaving more ash than equivalent mass of wood.
Considering the ever expanding horsy-culture business this merits consideration.
Very good advice prior to installation including highlighting of grants still available then. Quick service, timing as agreed. Fitted solar PV and thermal water heating over 5 days with minimal disruption.…
