Energy efficiency measures taken
- A-rated appliances
- Cavity wall insulation
- Double glazing
- Draft proofing
- Lagged pipes
- Loft insulation
- Low energy lightbulbs
- No to standby
- Radiator thermostats
- Turn down thermostat
Of the active systems I have 3kWp of PV and a solar hot water system on our "Post-carbon Home" in High Wycombe, Bucks, UK. In addition there is a 15kW KWB wood pellet boiler. The passive system include every possible energy saving lightbulb, bye bye standby, cavity wall insulation, double-glazing, 300mm sheeps wool loft insulation, water butts, TRVs on the rads... you name, we have it. Everything works and everything was worth it now with Feed In Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.
I am co-founder of Transition Town High Wycombe and run my own project/web site called www.post-carbon-living.com and its "Post Carbon Home". I believe creating post-carbon living can be fun and more of a hobby than chore.
