Recently moved to an Edwardian (single brick) house, installed solar thermal, installed wood burner with back boiler and thermal store, rebuilt garden room with Under Floor Heating, currently refurbishing main bedroom internally cladding (dry lining) external walls. Working through whole house doing this room by room and intend to have UFH in all ground floor rooms, also intend to have rain water harvesting. Not convinced about heat pumps but need a viable alternative to current gas boiler.
Life long environmentalist, (unpaid) consultant to East Cambridgeshire DC, designated Climate Change champion for North East Cambs, run my own eco-focused plumbing, heating and electrical engineering business called, "Bury Services" and environmental consultancy called, 'UniMatriX Consulting'. Believe that we are not moving fast enough to reduce carbon emissions.
Decide where you ultimately want to be, plan the steps to get there and do them in logical sequence. NEVER do anything twice or have to re-do anything you have already done. Planning is almost everything, research makes up the difference! If you are not good at DIY, get good at it!
