I have a 4.2kw pv system that gives us 100% of our power needs over the course of a year. We had huge problems with the planners when we installed the system but battled through! We also have a Solar Twin hot water system which is ok but it's a flat panel system and not a patch on the evacuated tube version.
I have been an active environmentalist since the early 1970s. Since 2004 I have run a vegan guest house in the New Forest - I believe it is the only fully solar powered guest house in the UK - unless you know better!
Get planning sorted before you make any commitments to install anything! And if you're going for solar hot water then pay the extra for an evacuated tube model.
