I have a 16 panel 4kWh grid tie PV installation on a south facing roof. I also have a single 30W panel which I experiment with and which also exports to the grid. Surplus generation is diverted into my hot water tank.
I have a vertical axis wind turbine VAWT and am currently building a horizontal axis wind turbine. I have built two solar thermal panels in the past.
The best advise I can give is to reduce your energy consumption first and foremost, then offset your use with alternative systems. Insulate your house to a high standard and switch off or turn down your controls.
If you have Solar PV and can transfer any spare generation into your hot water tank then do so it would be better than considering any battery system.
