If you are just starting to think about solar PV, get at least 3 quotes. If any "salesman" tries to get you to sign on the spot after spending hours with you, show him/her the door. You should expect a professional survey, possibly initially based on a Google Earth / Bing Maps review, with a full quote to follow in writing. If you spot a local PV installation, knock on the door and ask if the owner would mind telling you about their experience - we found this invaluable.
