We started with solar heating for our hot water , the initial build appeared to go smoothly but after a few months it became obvious that all was not well the roof panels started venting repeatedly requiring numerous visits. without any improvement.I was forced to get a independant authority to view the system. He gave me a reprt that said basically the system was a time bomb waiting to go off !! the pump had been plumbed the wrong side of the pump, the expansion chamber was too small for the system and was of Spanish manufacture and was not to British standards. The system had no fittings on it to allow for draining down or topping up and the systems antifreeze was below protection levels. After all these problems were sorted it has run perfectly and has saved us considerable amount of money.
I am a retired aircraft engineer and my wife is a retired P/A . we have built up our green credentials over a period of time to where we cannot sensibly go much further. We are both basically from a country background and know that the land we live in is not ours to plunder as we think fit for our short term benefit, This island we live in has been changed for ever by mans encroachment, however sensible planning can still make sure we do not pass on a desert on to our grandchildren and solar energy is a logical step towards responsible management, it behoves the head of each family to teach their offspring respect for the world enviourment so that we do not destroy that which we have to pass on . There is not much time left or we will in the grand scheme of things become just another failed species along with the dinasours.

If you have read the above the most obvious advise is make sure your installer is up to scratch and find out before you start what authority you should contact to act as an independant arbitrator in the event of problems. we have since had solar electricity generating panels fitted by Southern Solar and the whole experience has been positive I cannot reccomend them more highly, the contact with their HO was pleasant and informative , the guys who did the work were clean competant and helpful, the job was carried out on schedule and they were as interested in giving us a satisfactory job as we were in getting one. The house and surroundings were left spotless and we are enjoying watching
the credits clock up on our electricity account.. When building your system get the best !! That means Southern Solar.
