We have had solar thermal panels for several years providing much of our hot water throughout the year and all of it for much of the summer, saving substantially on gas bills. Recently we had solar photovoltaic panels installed - electricity bills seem to be lower but it is too soon to evaluate the benefits properly. Having a house whose roof ridge runs almost exactly east-west so that the panels face due south must help!
