DECC launches online renewable heat incentive calculator: YouGen response

Posted on 30 July 2014 at 12:59 pm

Tasha Kosviner, editor of the independent energy saving website, said:

"We welcome the domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI) calculator as one part of the jigsaw for any household weighing up the pros and cons of using renewable heat.

"However, the renewable heat incentive should be only part of the equation.

"The calculator will only tell you what return you can expect through the RHI. It will not tell you which technology if any is suitable for your home. Nor will it tell you the cost of installing, running and maintaining a renewable heating system.

"Finally it will not tell you whether your home is eligible for RHI. To qualify for RHI you must ensure your home has minimum levels of insulation.

"Anyone considering installing a renewable heating system in their home should seek independent advice and take quotes from numerous installers before committing."

Notes to editors is an independent website offering households and SMEs unbiased high quality advice on all aspects of energy saving and renewables.

For more information about the systems that might qualify for RHI click here for biomass, here for solar thermal and here for heat pumps.

In addition to editing, Tasha Kosviner sits on DECC's consumer protection group for domestic RHI and Ofgem's stakeholder group for domestic RHI.
