YouGen response to comprehensive spending review
Posted on 20 October 2010 at 4:39 pm
Earlier today the Chancellor announced the comprehensive spending review, stating that feed-in tariffs would continue unchanged until the first planned review, and that the government would introduce a renewable heat incentive.
"Given that our recent poll found that 85% of people are holding back on installing renewable heat at home due to uncertainty about the renewable heat incentive, this announcement is good news," says Cathy Debenham, director of YouGen. "However, it does not go far enough.
"Until we know more detail people still won't have confidence to invest, and installers will continue to be in limbo. I urge the Goverment to release its response to the consultation as soon as possible, so that consumers, industry and investors have clarity and the confidence to move forward.
"Given that a rumour has been circulating that the microgeneration end of the renewable heat incentive may be cut, and the 20% cuts that the coalition is making to the scheme compared with Labour's plans, I would advise anyone thinking of investing in domestic renewable heat to wait for more detail before they make a final decision."
