General review of your supplier
We contacted two potential suppliers when we began researching renewables for our major house renovation. Indigo were consistently first in responding to emails and providing helpful advice, to us and to our builder. Quotes were clear, detailed and provided on time. So we decided to go with them for the installation of our ground source system. Our builder dug trenches and installed the heat loops in the garden, while Indigo installed the pumps, controls, tanks and underfloor heating system in the house. When unforeseen complications in the building work delayed the installation of the system, Indigo were understanding, and stored the hardware while the issues were resolved. Once that was done, Christian and his team moved in to perform the installation. The work was done on time and exactly on budget. The quality of the work was very good - it was a pity to cover up the neat and polished copper pipework with insulation! Commissioning was smooth, and the handover meeting was informative. Documentation provided to us was comprehensive and well presented. On two occasions we had cause to call out Indigo. Once, shortly after commissioning, when we discovered a leak in the pipework. A text message was sent to Indigo at 7am, and they were at the house with the required parts by 9am. Some time later, we discovered a part missing on one of the manifolds (we suspect small children's fingers) - Indigo sourced the part and fitted it, at no cost. We've booked one routine maintenance call so far - the costs were very reasonable. We've been particularly impressed with the way that Indigo have supported us in applying for the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. They have guided us through the process, advised on application options, and provided necessary inputs for our application promptly. The application was successful. As a self-confessed Geek, I was interested in the controllability and monitoring options offered by the system, and Christian has been happy to indulge my curiosity. All in all, I have no hesitation in recommending Indigo - they are a safe set of hands in what can be a rather complex and opaque branch of the domestic heating market.
What would you have liked to know before you asked suppliers to quote
We were given comprehensive information by Indigo on all aspects of the system which we had installed. Three years (approximately) on from that point, everything is working well. Our only slight regret (not the fault of Indigo) is that we opted for wireless, battery operated thermostat control systems. Our units are made by Heatmiser, and I find the control interface rather clumsy, while the batteries need replacing every 9 months or so - the systems stop transmitting before the screens go blank, so it is possible to miss the fact that the connection has been broken. In retrospect, it would have been better, if more expensive, to install wired control units. But it's a minor issue.
